Spirit of MLK Day Leadership & Service Award

Dr. King once dreamt of a world where people would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Langston Hughes dreamt of a world where all will know sweet freedom’s way—where greed no longer saps the soul, nor avarice blights our day.

Kermit the Frog had a dream about singing and dancing and making people happy.

Well, I have a dream, too. And it’s my dream to add some measure of grace to a world that, nearly fifty years after Dr. King’s death, is still ripped apart by hate, by poverty, by greed, by hunger, and by blind ambition. If there’s one thing that Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy has taught me, it’s that with hard work, and a little faith in your fellow man, we really can hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.

I do not deserve this award, but I am honored, and I am humbled to receive it. Thank you.
